More than 36,000 children received assistance in short-term care units in 2025

In 2025, 36,299 children underwent diagnosis and treatment in the short-term care units of the country’s hospitals, both on a planned and emergency basis. Data presented by the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund highlights the high demand for this format, especially among parents of younger children: 64% of all patients were children under six years old, including 11% infants under one year.

The infrastructure of short-term units allows doctors to immediately begin diagnosis and treatment upon patient admission, eliminating the need for prolonged hospitalization. The round-the-clock operation mode ensures prompt access to laboratory services, modern equipment, and a full range of necessary medications, guaranteeing the timeliness and quality of care provided.

The introduction of short-term stay practices significantly reduces psychological pressure on children and their families, lowers the risks of hospital-acquired infections, and allows for quick management of acute conditions, providing recommendations for further treatment at the primary healthcare level.

This model helps effectively allocate budgetary resources while preserving hospital resources for cases with severe pathologies requiring emergency medical care.

The Mandatory Health Insurance Fund ensures complete and timely funding for these units, as well as ongoing monitoring of service quality, strictly controlling compliance with medical standards and protecting citizens' rights to effective and safe treatment, as stated in the announcement.
