The number of cancer cases among children in Kyrgyzstan has exceeded 200 per year
According to information provided by the staff of the Ombudsman Institute, the number of registered cases of cancer among children in Kyrgyzstan exceeds 200 per year. This data was announced as part of a monitoring conducted in the pediatric oncology department at the National Center for Oncology and Hematology in Bishkek.
As of the end of August 2025, about 60 children suffering from oncological and oncohematological diseases were receiving treatment in the oncology department. In recent years, there has been a steady increase in the number of new cases of childhood cancer: from 70 new cases in 2014 to more than 200 since 2023.
The most common diagnoses among children are acute lymphoblastic leukemia, brain tumors, as well as neuroblastomas and nephroblastomas.
The Ombudsman Institute clarifies that the increase in the number of cases is related not only to the rise in incidence but also to improvements in diagnosis and disease detection.
Human rights organizations emphasize the importance of state support for the children's oncology service, increasing diagnostic capabilities, and ensuring access to quality treatment for young patients.
