Shortage of Essential Medicines. The Oncology Hospital in Bishkek is Lacking 80 Items
During the monitoring conducted by the staff of the Ombudsman Institute of the Kyrgyz Republic, serious issues with the provision of medications were identified in two oncology institutions in Bishkek. This information was announced by representatives of the Ombudsman Institute.
As a result of the inspection at the National Center for Oncology and Hematology, it was found that cancer patients are facing a shortage of necessary medications — about 80 names of vital drugs are missing in hospitals, including expensive treatments for oncological diseases.
An analysis of medical and financial documentation revealed that the main reasons for the shortage were regular delays in deliveries and insufficient procurement volumes from the state enterprise "Kyrgyzpharmacy".
Some patients told human rights defenders that they have to search for and purchase medications on their own at their own expense. According to them, the shortage of expensive drugs is observed not only in individual institutions but throughout the country.
The Ombudsman Institute emphasizes that such a situation violates citizens' rights to receive necessary medical drugs and quality, continuous treatment.
To fully supply the oncology service with medications, at least 2.5 billion soms are required. In this regard, human rights defenders stress the need for prompt action, a review of existing procurement mechanisms, and a significant increase in funding for oncological assistance.
