Life in the Regions: Syimyk Bakir Uulu from Talas Region Raises Cows Worth Up to 270,000 Som
In a conversation with a Turmush correspondent, he shared that initially his family tried raising various types of livestock, including horses, sheep, and bulls. However, in his opinion, the best choice turned out to be pedigree cows. "The advantages of such animals are obvious: they are taller, produce significantly more milk, and provide greater profit compared to local breeds. For example, one pedigree cow can produce as much milk as two or three ordinary ones," the farmer noted.
He also mentioned that calves from pedigree cows are more expensive and grow faster. "At birth, they are already similar in size to local calves of two months old and can give birth at two years," he added, emphasizing the benefits of pedigree cattle breeding.
Sıymık also explained that the price of such cows varies depending on their height and weight, averaging 260,000 to 270,000 soms. "We breed Holstein-Friesian cows, known for their dairy production. These animals are quite large and require good care, unlike local cows that can graze on pasture without any problems," he said.
Due to their size, pedigree cows sometimes find it difficult to find suitable grazing spots, so their diet includes silage, hay, barley, wheat, and compound feed, as well as special vitamins to strengthen their immune system. "We are just starting to breed such cows, so we haven't managed to prepare properly yet, but next year we plan to stock up on feed in advance and create the necessary reserves," Sıymık added.
The idea of breeding pedigree livestock came to the family three years ago. "We took out a loan at 3% under the state program for the development of pedigree livestock and started our farm. Initially, we traveled to Saratov to learn from Russian farmers, but the conditions they offered did not suit us, and we eventually made an agreement with a local farm," he noted.
