Marat Iliyasov, a native of the village of Ala-Bash, located in the upper valley of the Ton district, shares his story of labor migration that lasted a whole decade. In a conversation with a Turmush correspondent, he talked about how his years away from home went and what prompted him to return.

“I was born and raised in the mountainous area, in the village of Ala-Bash, and always dreamed of staying there. However, the lack of work forced me to leave my homeland and go to Russia, where I spent 10 years engaged in various types of labor. The life of a migrant was full of difficulties: at times we were left without money and food,” he recalls.

After returning home, Marat decided to invest his modest savings in livestock farming. “Why not try to earn a living on my native land?” he thought. He built a barn next to his house, bought livestock, and began to fatten them. Now, as he says, life is improving: “The most important thing is that we are home, close to family. By starting a business, I realized that entrepreneurship is possible even in our village,” he shares.

Currently, Marat and his family take care of about 50 heads of cattle. They provide the animals with everything they need and then sell them at the market, replenishing the herd. Having gone through the hardships of migration, he found inspiration for his business. “We have already learned how to properly fatten and sell cattle, and the income is pleasing. In the future, we plan to build a large facility for fattening cattle to create new jobs for local residents,” the entrepreneur explains.

According to him, local residents mainly earn a living through livestock farming, which is an important part of the economy of the village located in the upper valley of the Ton district.
