Today, the Jogorku Kenesh approved a draft law concerning the consideration of the interests of people with disabilities in the process of public procurement. This decision was made during the first reading of the relevant document.

Deputy Dastan Bekeshev was the initiator of this draft law.

The document stipulates that when conducting public procurement, the interests of persons with disabilities must be taken into account. Bekeshev noted that the government gave a negative assessment of the draft law, citing existing norms that protect the rights of people with disabilities in the construction sector.

“However, the problem is not limited to construction. It also pertains to the service and procurement sectors. For example, in the past, buses were purchased without considering the need for ramps. As a result, additional funds had to be spent on new buses. A similar situation arises with the design of schools, where ramps are forgotten. The adoption of this draft law will allow all these aspects to be taken into account in public procurement,” the deputy added.

Dastan Bekeshev also stated that at the second reading stage, he plans to coordinate the provisions of the draft law with the government.
