In the CSTO countries, exercises will be held to protect against biological threats

An important meeting of CSTO representatives took place in Moscow

At the CSTO Joint Headquarters, the upcoming exercises "Barrier-2026," scheduled for October in Belarus, were discussed.

The working meeting was led by Lieutenant General Anatoly Yakovlev with the participation of delegates from the defense ministries of Belarus (via videoconference), Russia, and other member states of the organization.

The agenda included issues related to preparations for the exercises, as well as the implementation of Russian initiatives in military medicine and protection against biological threats. Aspects of organizing research activities within the framework of the exercises to establish a system for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) protection and medical support for the CSTO were also discussed.

For reference, this formation was created in 2022, taking into account the experience gained by the Russian Ministry of Defense during the fight against COVID-19. The main goal is to ensure the medical and biological safety of troops and to respond promptly to mass infectious diseases. The formation includes experts from all CSTO member states.

If necessary, this formation can be deployed on the territory of one of the CSTO member states to protect the Collective Forces and to participate in joint responses to the rapid spread of dangerous infectious diseases.
