President: State Awards Were Sold for $10,000, "People's" Awards Were Received for Two Songs
Deputy Kamila Talieva raised the issue that many teachers and doctors would like to receive awards directly from the hands of the president.
“Currently, only the award 'Honored' remains. Previously, there was the award 'People's Teacher', which should be reinstated. The title 'El akyny' should also not be excluded from the draft law,” she noted.
President Japarov emphasized that the process of revising the system of state awards began in 2021.
“Previously, many awards were given formally: they were sold for prices ranging from $5,000 to $10,000, and some became 'People's Artists' after performing just two songs. Meanwhile, veterans, honored teachers, and doctors remained unrecognized,” he added.
According to the president, during the reform, many people truly deserving of awards received well-deserved recognition. The number of awardees at one time sometimes reached 150–300 people.
The president also reported that there were previously 47 different state awards in the country.
“We tasked ourselves with reducing this number to 20, in order to eliminate formality and increase the value of each award. This option has already been sent to the Jogorku Kenesh. The parliament can make changes if it deems it necessary to increase or decrease the number of awards. That is your right. I fully support the draft law in its current version,” he concluded.
