Askhat Alagozov: Law Enforcement Will Reassess Their Attitude Towards Journalists and Business
According to him, law enforcement agencies will be called upon to apply, where possible, measures not related to arrest, as well as to carry out preventive work if it complies with the law.
“However, this does not imply complete freedom of action. Each decision will be made taking into account the specific circumstances and applicable legal norms,” he added.
Recently, several media organizations and journalists have appealed to President Sadyr Japarov, the head of the State National Security Committee (GKNB) Jumgalbek Shabdanbekov, and the chairman of the Supreme Court Mederbek Satyiev.
They noted that in recent years there has been an increase in the number of criminal cases against journalists and activists under the article "Mass Riots" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. They also expressed the opinion that recent personnel changes in the security agencies could lead to a more just approach to such cases.
