12 billion soms of debt from Toktorbaev? The Osh City Hall will be audited by the Accounts Chamber
Janar Akayev, the new mayor of Osh, announced the continuation of "good projects" initiated by his predecessor.
According to information circulated on social media in Kyrgyzstan, former mayor Jenishbek Toktorbaev left behind colossal debts amounting to 12 billion soms in the city budget. This news has sparked criticism regarding his performance in office.
New mayor Janar Akayev, commenting on the situation, did not deny the information about the debts but emphasized that his predecessor launched "good projects" that will be continued.
Akayev also noted that "we have strong deputy mayors" and promised to appeal to the republican budget, stating that work in Osh will continue regardless of the debts.
Today, at a meeting of the city council, the mayor announced that the Accounts Chamber will begin auditing the city's budget.
Osh city council member Bekbolot Arzibaev inquired about the state of the debts, pointing out that by the end of last year, the city's debt was approximately 1.5 billion soms.
As for the budget for 2026, its draft will amount to 5 billion 205 million soms, which is 1.8 billion soms more compared to previous figures.
