A meeting of the foreign ministers of EU countries took place in Brussels; however, it became known that they were unable to reach an agreement on a new package of sanctions and military support for Kyiv. Hungary was an obstacle to this, as it demands that Ukraine resume the supply of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline.

This situation has caused discontent in Slovakia, where they decided to suspend emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine, stating that no further assistance should be expected from them.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico emphasized on February 23 that if Ukraine requests help in stabilizing its energy network, such support will not be provided, as Kyiv has not restored oil supplies through Druzhba.

The European Union was only able to extend the sanctions imposed back in 2022 for one more year.

Kaja Kallas, the head of EU diplomacy, noted that Brussels plans to ban entry to European territory for all Russian military personnel who participated in conflicts in Ukraine, as well as to reduce the number of the Russian mission to the EU to 40 staff members.

According to her, Hungary's persistent resistance demonstrated that consensus was not achieved at the EU foreign ministers' meeting.
