At a meeting of the committee on agrarian policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Mahabat Mavlyanova expressed the opinion that Kyrgyzstan should not have withdrawn from the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.

She noted that this fund was established in 1999.

“Withdrawing from the fund in 2016 deprived us of the opportunity to address issues related to climate and water resources in our favor. Our country, being mountainous, is located at the sources of water in Central Asia, and we should take advantage of the opportunities that this organization provides,” she added.

The First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, commented that this issue has a political nature.

“At the moment, I am not ready to provide an answer; we will prepare a report later,” he noted.
