Political scientist Bakyt Baketaev has addressed a group of 75 prominent public figures in Kyrgyzstan, requesting them to publicly explain their position regarding the initiative for early elections. He emphasized the importance of maintaining political stability and the resilience of the state.
“With respect for your life experience and merits before the homeland, I want to say that haste in matters of state stability is a luxury that Kyrgyzstan cannot afford at this moment,” noted Baketaev.
In his opinion, when the country began to confidently move forward with its reforms and international organizations started calling Kyrgyzstan the "new Asian tiger," the initiative for early elections appears, at the very least, inappropriate.
Some signatories of the petition now acknowledge that the decision was made under the influence of emotions or a misunderstanding of legal norms, without proper analysis.
Society expects not just justifications, but an honest and dignified explanation from those who signed the appeal. Among them are respected elders, academics, and political figures who have dedicated their lives to serving the country. Therefore, the expectations from society towards them are high.
If the initiative was indeed driven by concern for the future of the country, the question arises: why was it not supported by experienced lawyers and generals like Felix Kulov, who, moreover, opposed it? This question is actively discussed in society.
At present, it is especially important to maintain calm and composure. The investigation will clarify the details, and state institutions continue their work. The president will take the necessary measures.
In the context of an unstable geopolitical situation, any thoughtless action can have consequences. Kyrgyzstan needs consistent actions, stability, and a constructive approach, rather than turbulence.
Elders have traditionally played the role of a moral support for the people. Society expects from them a new, thoughtful, and balanced address that would support stability and the fundamental principles of the constitutional order.
Wisdom is the foundation for building a state.
“Why are they silent? Do they agree or not? The people are waiting for their opinion, or do they plan to stand their ground until the end?” asks Baketaev.
It should be noted that earlier, 75 prominent public figures and former politicians appealed to the president with a call for early elections. Explanatory conversations were held with them in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and some of the signatories were detained.
