At the Munich Security Conference, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that his country's embassy in Kyiv had been subjected to three attacks by Russian military forces.

In response to a question about whether he had discussed with the Russian president the strikes on energy facilities in Ukraine owned by Azerbaijani companies, Aliyev added that the attacks also affected the diplomatic mission.

“After the first attack, we could have considered it an accident and informed the Russian side of the coordinates of all our diplomatic facilities — including consular departments and cultural centers. However, the subsequent two attacks showed that this was a targeted assault on our embassy,” he noted.

The Russian Foreign Ministry, in turn, denied Aliyev's statements, calling them “untruths.” The ministry clarified that in November 2025, the Azerbaijani ambassador in Moscow was expressed “sincere regret” regarding the damage caused to the diplomatic mission in Kyiv, explaining that the damage could have been caused by “incorrect operations” of the Ukrainian air defense.

Russia categorically rejects accusations of deliberate attacks on diplomatic institutions.
