Political scientist Bakyt Baketaev expressed his thoughts regarding the assessments made by foreign analysts concerning the recent personnel changes in Kyrgyzstan. He noted that the speed and certainty of their judgments are puzzling.
“What is particularly touching is the promptness of the reaction from foreign 'experts'. Yesterday, there were changes in the leadership of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, and already today, somewhere between a latte and a flight, analysts from across the ocean managed to understand, analyze, and explain everything. Meanwhile, we, living here and immersed in the context, rumors, and facts, have not yet come to a final understanding of the situation, while they have already drawn their conclusions. And they do this with confident certainty, as if they were witnesses to the events,” Baketaev noted.
He added that this is a “remarkable gift” — being so far away, lacking knowledge of the language, cultural nuances, and real circumstances, yet making definitive conclusions using terms like “democracy” and “authoritarianism”.
“We have a complex country with a complicated history and tangled decisions. For foreign experts, everything is simple: if the situation does not match their templates, then everything is bad. If their opinion was not solicited, then it’s a dictatorship. If it wasn’t explained, then the truth is being hidden. It’s convenient, like a user manual,” he added.
With irony, Baketaev remarked that in the future, the same experts might claim that “Kyrgyzstan lacks sovereign thinking”.
“Yes, especially when they have already decided everything for us,” he noted.
In the opinion of the political scientist, it sometimes seems that for some “experts”, what matters most is not the country itself, but the opportunity to express an opinion.
“The question of who suffered or gained is not important; what matters is to publish a comment in time. So, of course, thank you for your concern, but perhaps we will figure it out ourselves, while you enjoy your coffee, update your manuals, and don’t rush to give us advice while we are still living in reality,” concluded Bakyt Baketaev.
Let us remind you that today several foreign political scientists, including those from Russia, have already commented on the resignation of Tashiev and his deputies, offering their versions of the reasons and consequences of these personnel changes.
