Toraga of the Jogorku Kenesh proposed to extend the visa-free period with Turkey to 180 days
According to the press service of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, the speaker of the parliament, held a meeting with Hakan Fidan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, during his official visit to the country.
During the negotiations, the directions for the development of political, economic, and cultural cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey were discussed. Turgunbek uulu noted that the strategic partnership between the two countries continues to strengthen, reminding of the upcoming state visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Kyrgyzstan in 2024, which will be an important milestone in bilateral relations.
The speaker emphasized the need to complete the ratification process of previously reached agreements as soon as possible, adding that this issue had already been discussed with Numan Kurtulmuş, the Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Special attention was given to economic issues. Turgunbek uulu noted the goal of increasing trade turnover between the two countries to 5 billion dollars and called for the activation of joint investment projects, especially in the energy and mining sectors. He also proposed extending the visa-free entry period from 90 to 180 days and considering the possibility of using internal passports.
The Kyrgyz side also expressed interest in receiving support for its candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2027–2028.
In response, Hakan Fidan congratulated Turgunbek uulu on his re-election as Speaker and expressed support for investment initiatives, adding that Turkey is ready to support Kyrgyzstan's candidacy in the UN Security Council. He also noted that the issues of quotas for labor migrants had been resolved in advance.
The meeting also discussed healthcare topics, where the Speaker proposed introducing preferential conditions for the treatment of Kyrgyz citizens, including cancer patients, in medical institutions in Turkey.
