In Kyrgyzstan, a reform is being prepared: schools and universities will start training climatologists
The aim of the document is to create a unified and sustainable system of climate education that encompasses all levels of education and public life.
According to the report, Kyrgyzstan is one of the most vulnerable regions in Central Asia in the context of climate threats. Glacial melting, degradation of mountain ecosystems, water resource shortages, and an increase in natural disasters negatively impact economic stability and the lives of citizens. In such conditions, the country needs to implement a systematic approach to climate knowledge.
The program confirms state policy in the field of climate education, taking into account international commitments such as the Paris Agreement, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the Sustainable Development Goals. It emphasizes the importance of training personnel, enhancing climate literacy among youth, civil servants, and educators, as well as developing scientific research and digital technologies.
Particular attention is paid to ensuring access to climate education for all segments of the population, including gender aspects and the involvement of children and youth in environmental projects.
The climate education system in Kyrgyzstan is at an initial stage. The program for 2025–2030 aims to address legal and methodological gaps, create a sustainable multi-level structure, and prepare specialists to adapt to climate challenges.
