The Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic plans to allocate plots of land for farmers ranging from 20 to 30 acres, designated for organic farming. These lands will be provided from the pool of clean pastures, and the state will also cover the certification costs, which can reach from $20,000 to $30,000. Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev shared this information at a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, which deals with agricultural policy and ecology.

Torobaev noted that about 80% of agricultural land in the country is privately owned, and its owners independently decide how to use it. Despite efforts to create cooperatives for farmers, many of them do not show particular initiative in this direction, which hinders the development of organic agriculture.

In this regard, the government is ready to offer 270 hectares of clean pastures from the Agricultural Land Redistribution Fund (ALRF) to those private farmers who are interested in organic production.

Deputy Mahabat Mavlyanova emphasized that organic agriculture is one of the key areas for the economy of Kyrgyzstan, and by 2029, the goal is to increase the area of organic crops to 1,000 hectares. However, she noted that there are many unresolved issues in this area and proposed organizing a meeting with farmers and experts to discuss these matters.

“In our country, chemical fertilizers are used without a system. We must pass on to future generations not degraded lands, but sustainable agricultural production. We have reserves of brown coal that can be used as fertilizer. In the Nookat district, there is a project to build a chemical fertilizer plant — it can be adapted for the production of organic fertilizers,” the deputy added.
