"Early" deputies are silent about early presidential elections

Recently elected members of parliament are actively engaged in their duties, discussing the registration of Kyrgyzstani breed horses and the fees for alternative service. However, when it comes to presidential elections, they suddenly fall silent.

Many have expressed their opinions on this issue, including politicians, lawyers, and experts. Some are against early elections, others support them, while some try to take a neutral position, providing arguments both for and against.

It is worth recalling that the presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan in January 2021 were also held early, which was a forced measure. Observers from the OSCE noted at that time that the elections were organized and without significant violations. Now, when the government has become more stable, there are no obstacles to conducting elections at a higher level. But how will this affect the outcome — elections on time or early?

The debate surrounding the upcoming elections has also involved representatives of civil society and the media. Some journalists cover the situation neutrally, while others, on the contrary, actively criticize the authorities, including the question of Sadyr Japarov's right to run for a second term.

The magazine "Cactus" emphasizes that the current president has no right to a second term, citing the opinion of opponents who claim that he altered the Constitution for his own purposes. However, despite these accusations, the changes were indeed justified, and the results showed that the transition to a presidential system of governance was effective.

On the other hand, employees of "Azattyk," who initially criticized Japarov, argue that the current authorities are using their position to usurp power. They accuse the president of caring only about his own well-being, ignoring the needs of the people.

Moreover, some opposition media funded from abroad also seize the opportunity to criticize Japarov, accusing him of corruption and lack of empathy. Despite this, many of the reforms carried out by the president are aimed at the benefit of the people, and there is no doubt about that.

The recent reform in the area of driver's licenses has also become a subject of discussion. Despite criticism from the opposition, it is necessary for improving road safety. The increase in training periods and the transition to state control over driving schools is perceived by some as negative, but perhaps it is the right step given the rising number of traffic accidents.

Deputies, concerned about their popularity, preferred to express dissatisfaction instead of constructively discussing the reform, which only fuels political debate. Even though most of them were elected on a pro-presidential platform.

Sadyr Japarov noted that when acute issues arise, deputies should be active and discuss them with society. Open discussions are lacking both on the driver's reform and on the presidential election issues. Deputies should gather and discuss these important matters instead of avoiding communication with the people for political gain.

In Kyrgyzstan, as a presidential republic, the decision regarding the elections of the head of state is made by the president based on the Constitution, but the support of parliament on this issue is also of great significance.
