At the plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Nurlanbek Azygaliev raised the issue of the cost of housing construction financed by the State Mortgage Company (GIK).

In response to his question, the Deputy Head of the State Mortgage Company, Nurlan Kudaykulov, reported that the cost price per square meter of housing in Bishkek is 59,140 soms, while in the regions it is 64,800 soms.

The deputy also inquired about the price at which apartments are sold. Kudaykulov replied that the cost ranges from $900 to $1,400 per square meter, to which Azygaliev expressed doubt, noting that the price seems inflated.

The company representative, Kudaykulov, explained that the GIK needs to make a profit to continue building new projects.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Daniyar Amangeldiev, added that the tariffs of the State Mortgage Company are under constant control, and there is a clear calculation for them. "We have developed various preferential and commercial tariffs, which require balancing—preferential tariffs are covered by commercial ones. On average, apartments are sold for $900, and they come with repairs," he noted.

"We did not create the GIK to make a profit, but to provide affordable housing for those in need," the deputy emphasized.
