Digital data will become official evidence
The Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic has initiated significant changes in criminal law aimed at combating cybercrime. The new draft law, which is being discussed in society, introduces mechanisms for the seizure, storage, and confiscation of digital assets into the legal system for the first time.
According to this document, digital data — including internet traffic logs and personal messages in messengers — will be recognized as official evidence. This reform aims to eliminate legal shortcomings that have led to electronic information often being deemed inadmissible in court.
Particular attention is given to financial issues: if it is not possible to directly seize cryptocurrency, the law will allow for the confiscation of equivalent assets or funds. Experts emphasize that updating the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes of the Kyrgyz Republic will help synchronize national legislation with the "digital reality" and facilitate international cooperation in investigating cross-border cybercrimes.
