The Ministry of Defense of Kyrgyzstan reported on the funds received from alternative service. Talaybek Sharshiev, the First Deputy Minister, answered questions from deputies of the parliamentary budget committee.

According to him, in 2024, it is expected that 714 million soms will be received from alternative service, which will be directed towards improving the material and technical base of military facilities, including the repair of barracks and other premises in units.

During the committee meeting, a draft law was also discussed, proposing to increase the monetary contributions for alternative service.

Notably, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed his disagreement with this initiative.

It was previously reported that citizens called up for alternative service due to family circumstances receive 18,000 soms, while those with health restrictions receive 25,000 soms. The new draft law proposes to establish new amounts: 25,000 and 50,000 soms, respectively. It is also planned to raise the payment to 50,000 soms for those registered in religious organizations where the use of weapons and service in the armed forces are not permitted.

The Ministry of Defense notes that the current payment amounts were established back in 2017, and changes are proposed taking into account economic growth and inflation.
