A ceremonial reception was held in Bishkek to mark the 77th anniversary of the Republic Day of India. Congratulations were addressed to the guests by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of India to Kyrgyzstan, Birender Singh Yadav, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Almaz Imangaziev.

The event was attended by diplomats from various countries, representatives of government structures, international organizations, as well as businessmen and cultural figures, including Indians proud of their rich culture and history.

Ambassador Birender Singh Yadav noted that January 26, 1950, became an important milestone in India's history when the Constitution was adopted. This event marked the beginning of 77 years of progress, ensuring the country's transition from a colonial past to the status of a sovereign democratic republic.

Despite global challenges, India, inspired by Prime Minister Modi's ambitious "Viksit Bharat" plan — the aspiration to achieve developed country status by 2047 — demonstrates impressive economic growth rates exceeding 7%. In 2025, India surpassed Japan and ranked fourth in the world by nominal GDP, which amounts to about $4.18 trillion. It is projected that by 2030, India will become the third-largest economy in the world, while in 2014, it was only in tenth place," he added.

Birender Singh Yadav emphasized that "India, as the largest democracy, has demonstrated the effectiveness of democratic processes that ensure stability and the pace of inclusive development. In recent years, over 250 million people have risen out of poverty, and the Prime Minister's vision of involving everyone, developing everyone, and trusting everyone has become a benchmark for the country's growth. We have also shown that diversity can be a strength of democracy."

Over the past ten years, India has achieved success in various fields, including the creation of the world's largest digital infrastructure. The Indian UPI platform is the leading digital payment system, and the country holds leading positions in vaccine production, steel, and startups, as well as in aviation and rail transport. India ensures food security for its population of 1.4 billion people and actively exports products to other countries.

India also takes an active position on the international stage, representing the interests of developing countries and demonstrating its readiness to assist neighbors in difficult times, providing humanitarian aid and ensuring the security of sea routes, the ambassador proudly noted.

According to him, the historical and cultural ties between India and Kyrgyzstan have become the foundation for a strategic partnership that will actively develop, especially in 2026 when Kyrgyzstan will chair the SCO. Birender Singh Yadav expressed support for the initiatives of the Kyrgyz side.

The ambassador noted that intense cooperation between the two countries is manifested in frequent delegation visits. Currently, groups of Kyrgyz servicemen are undergoing training in India, and a delegation of special forces will participate in the "Khandjar" exercises. In early February, a seminar and exhibition on defense industry issues will be held in Bishkek.

In the process of seeking new areas for joint work, the parties intend to implement previously signed agreements. The current level of bilateral trade is below potential, and India will work with Kyrgyzstan to increase it, considering the complementarity of the economies. The completion of negotiations on the free trade agreement between India and the EAEU will be an important step towards expanding trade volumes between the two countries," the ambassador added.

He also reported on the signing of memorandums of understanding for projects related to the establishment of an IT laboratory at the Kyrgyz Economic University and improving the infrastructure of the General Practice Center in the Leylek district of the Batken region, aimed at improving the lives of local residents.

Birender Singh Yadav proudly announced that India will replace the cobalt-60 source in the Bhabhatron II device, which was transferred to the National Center for Oncology and Hematology, and will also provide the Siddharth II linear accelerator to enhance Kyrgyzstan's capacity in cancer treatment.

Additionally, the ambassador thanked Kyrgyzstan for the safety of the Indian diaspora and medical students, who play an important role in strengthening friendship between the two countries.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Almaz Imangaziev emphasized that India is a reliable ally of Kyrgyzstan in the pursuit of a just world order based on the principles of international law.

He congratulated Indian friends on the holiday and noted that India, as one of Kyrgyzstan's closest partners, has achieved significant success in socio-economic development, which is a source of pride. Cooperation covers various spheres, including politics, economics, and culture, and the launch of a direct Bishkek-Delhi flight by TezJet airline underscores the mutual interest in expanding contacts.

The celebration of the 77th anniversary of Republic Day began early in the morning on January 26 with the raising of the Indian flag at the embassy, where students and representatives of the diaspora gathered. The ambassador congratulated compatriots and read a message from Prime Minister Modi, who called for unity and striving for "Viksit Bharat." Students expressed their support for the Prime Minister's words.

As is customary, the celebration featured Indian music and dance, creating a special atmosphere. Reflecting on Gregory David Roberts' novel "Shantaram," I thought about how "India is a country where the heart reigns over all," and this sentiment filled the atmosphere at the reception.
