Starting from January 1, 2026, new requirements for the minimum work experience for retirement will come into effect in Kyrgyzstan. According to the head of the Social Fund's public relations department, Jenishbek Mukambetov, citizens will need at least six years of work experience to qualify for a pension.
Changes to the legislation were made in 2024. Previously, women who reached 58 years of age and men who reached 63 years were required to have 20 years of work experience. In case of insufficient experience, a partial pension was granted.
As of July 1, 2024, the old norms were abolished, and a minimum work experience of five years was introduced, allowing for the receipt of a full pension.
Mukambetov added that starting in 2026, the minimum work experience will gradually increase: one year will be added every two years. According to the plan, by 2045 it will amount to 20 years, after which the increase in experience will stop.
It is important to note that when calculating work experience, not only entries in the employment record book are taken into account. Periods such as military service, maternity leave, and others provided by law can also be included in the experience.
