Moldova has begun the process of exiting the CIS

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, announced on Radio Moldova about the start of the procedure for the country's withdrawal from the CIS. According to him, the process of denouncing the agreements defining Moldova's membership in the Commonwealth is already at the approval stage, and the relevant documents will be sent to parliament.

In particular, this concerns the denunciation of the founding agreement and its annexes, as well as the CIS charter. "Although formally we continued to be part of the CIS, in fact, our participation was suspended. By rejecting these three key agreements, the Republic of Moldova will officially withdraw from the Commonwealth," the minister noted.

Popșoi added that the initiative to denounce the agreements was activated shortly after the start of Russia's military actions in Ukraine in February 2022.

The Foreign Minister also emphasized that many provisions of these agreements are outdated and, in some cases, have not been implemented at all.
