The Head of the Border Service Explained How Conflicts at the Border in the Batken Region Were Resolved in the USSR
He noted that in the Batken region, conflicts with citizens of neighboring countries arose in 1974 and 1989. At that time, the Soviet authorities responded by sending military units to these areas, placing them between the conflicting parties, and imposing a curfew to reduce tension and stabilize the situation.
According to Alimbaev, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, each republic, upon gaining independence, had to address the definition of its state borders.
“If we had paid attention to clarifying the borders back then, today development and progress would be significantly more pronounced,” he added.
