Candidates for deputies proposed not to fine for children at election meetings

At a meeting of the parliamentary committee on constitutional legislation, state structure, and local self-government, Dastan Bekeshev, a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, proposed to exempt candidates for deputies and presidents of Kyrgyzstan from liability for the presence of minors at election events.

According to Bekeshev, candidates are often fined for the presence of individuals under 18 years old at meetings with voters, with the fine amounting to 7,500 soms.

“When a candidate gathers people, and a woman comes with a child, you can't just kick her out. Later, opponents come, photograph the children, and file complaints against the candidate. Similar incidents also occurred in 2021; this happened repeatedly,” he added.

As a result of the discussion, the deputies approved the draft constitutional law "On Amendments to the Constitutional Law 'On Elections of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic'" in the third reading and sent it for further consideration in parliament.
