The State Has Grown Stronger: Imankulov on the Fight Against Corruption, Defense, and the Budget

The state has become stronger: Imankulov on the fight against corruption, defense, and the budget

The former Secretary of State of Kyrgyzstan, Marat Imankulov, summarized the work of the current government in an interview with the Birinchi radio station and discussed important changes in the areas of security, economy, and public administration.

He noted that in recent years, the results of the government's work have been actively discussed, and Imankulov himself has closely studied the analytical reports from this period. According to him, over the past five years, they have managed to complete a volume of tasks that had not been realized in the previous decade.

Particular attention in the conversation was given to the issue of "Kumtor." Imankulov pointed out that the process of nationalizing the mine and returning it under full state control turned out to be extremely complex, requiring significant efforts and political will. He also mentioned successes in the fight against corruption and increasing measures to ensure security at the border.

Regarding the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, Imankulov reminded about the difficult negotiations and conflicts, particularly two major incidents in the Batken region. He reported that during the crisis events of April 2021, the president called on him to participate in the work of the Security Council, relying on his experience.

During the interview, he also discussed the fight against organized crime, noting that the state is demonstrating its achievements in this area. Significant changes have also occurred in the field of defense: weapons and heavy equipment have been updated, and new aircraft have been purchased, which are actively used to ensure the country's security.

Imankulov reminded that previously the state did not have the opportunity to make such large expenditures due to low budget collection and high corruption, when billions of soms did not reach the treasury. Currently, in his opinion, the situation has radically changed: increased budget revenues have allowed for salary and pension increases, as well as strengthening the material and technical base of agencies, especially law enforcement agencies.
In conclusion, Imankulov noted that he has actively participated in many of these processes and has been working in the president's team for over four years. He added that there is still much work ahead, and in the new year, the authorities plan to continue implementing major reforms and projects.
