Volodin: We are preparing initiatives to tighten migration policy in the Russian Federation
In his Telegram channel, Volodin noted that these measures are aimed at improving the migration policy in the country. He stated: "We are preparing to introduce a number of legislative initiatives aimed at enhancing migration policy."
Among the proposals is the reduction of the mandatory medical examination period for foreign citizens staying in Russia for more than three months, from 90 to 30 days. Additionally, it is planned to establish an obligation for medical institutions to transmit information about conducted medical examinations to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, as well as to notify Rospotrebnadzor about identified infectious diseases among migrants for prompt deportation.
New initiatives also include accountability for foreign citizens evading medical examinations, including fines and the possibility of expulsion by court decision. The tightening will also affect criminal liability for forging medical documents regarding the absence of dangerous diseases.
Volodin emphasized that these measures are aimed at increasing control over migrants and ensuring public safety in Russia.
Furthermore, he reminded that this year the Federal Bailiff Service expelled about 35,000 migrants who violated migration laws. Also, starting from February 2025, a register of controlled persons will begin operating – a database of illegal migrants created at the request of citizens. As of September 1, 2025, this register already listed 770,000 migrants, one-third of whom are women and children.
