Eighth Grader from Leilek Imran Subankulov Won a Gold Medal at the Math Olympiad in the USA
This was reported by a Turmush correspondent.
From the first grade, Imran showed a great interest in mathematics, and participating in the olympiad turned out to be easy for him. He is currently studying in the 8th grade.
“I started solving math problems even before I went to school. Probably, that’s when my interest in this subject began. The competition in America seemed easy to me. Participants came from Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and other countries,” Imran shared.
According to Imran's mother, Gulzara Kalysova, his passion for mathematics started at an early age.
“From a young age, Imran was interested in mathematics. In elementary school, he didn’t even use small notebooks, preferring 96-page ones specifically for math. His enthusiasm was so strong that some teachers didn’t always understand it. He collects Japanese sudoku, solves the Rubik's cube quickly, and even repairs calculators,” she said.
In November of last year, Imran participated in the international mathematics olympiad, passed the first round, and received an invitation to the USA. Recently, he took part in the olympiad held in Miami, Florida, and won, earning a gold medal. About 100 students from 9 schools participated in this event.
Previously, we thought that participation in olympiads was only possible from the 9th grade, but since the 6th grade, Imran has been studying at a private school where teachers help develop his interests and prepare him for competitions.
We hope that in the future he will enroll in one of the best universities, possibly abroad, and make significant discoveries in the field of mathematics.
Imran is a very modest and shy boy. Even a small compliment at school can bring him to tears. But over time, he has become more confident, neat, and responsible. He successfully manages both his studies and household responsibilities. If given money, he knows how to use it wisely. His handwriting is not perfect, but it is neat. We even consulted with psychologists, who explained that when a child is actively working with their mind, they may pay less attention to their handwriting,” added G. Kalysova.
From Kyrgyzstan, 15 students went to the olympiad, among whom two won gold medals.
