How many schools in Bishkek are heated with electricity? Response from the Education Department of the Mayor's Office
Rahat Musaeva, head of the Education Department of the capital's mayor's office, reported that there are 119 schools and 120 kindergartens in Bishkek.
Of all educational institutions, 130 are connected to central heating, 54 are heated by gas, 46 use electric boilers, 15 use coal, and five use heat pumps.
The deputy noted that school No. 84 uses electric convectors for heating. This system is characterized by the fact that heating is provided not through centralized registers, but through electric radiators. However, this scheme poses certain problems in the educational process.
According to him, in order to save electricity, the school administration turns off the convectors on weekends. As a result, on Monday, when students of the first shift, especially first and second graders, come to classes, it can be cold in the classrooms.
“On one hand, it makes sense [to save electricity], but on the other, children are forced to sit in cold classrooms in freezing temperatures,” the deputy expressed his opinion and inquired whether there are plans to switch such schools to gas heating this year.
R. Musaeva responded that schools No. 83, No. 84, and kindergarten No. 41 use electric convectors. She also noted that a letter had been sent to "Bishkekteploenergo" requesting the conversion of these institutions to gas heating or connection to the central heating system.
