The Ministry of Science proposes to abolish fines for student absences in universities and colleges

The Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations has proposed to educational institutions of all forms of ownership to abolish the practice of imposing fines on students for missing classes and internships.

According to the ministry's press service, this initiative is aimed at protecting students' rights, creating fair and uniform approaches to academic discipline, and preventing unnecessary financial penalties in the educational environment.

In addition, the Ministry of Science suggests implementing alternative academic measures that are not related to financial consequences, in accordance with current laws.

As part of this initiative, the ministry plans to amend the legislation regulating the activities of higher and secondary vocational educational institutions.

Previously, the issue of financially punishing students for absences was raised by some deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh. Acting Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations Gulzat Isamatova agreed that this is incorrect and that academic penalties, such as making up missed classes, should be applied.
