PM2.5 refers to fine particles smaller than 2.5 microns. They are 30 times smaller than a human hair and include a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances contribute to the formation of smog typical of large cities.
According to the global ranking, as of March 26, Bishkek ranks 22nd (as of 11:00) among cities with the most polluted air.
