PM2.5 consists of solid particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These particles include a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. They are responsible for the visibility deterioration characteristic of large cities.
On the international stage, Bishkek ranks 38th in the world for air quality as of March 22 at 5:00 PM.
