In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, raids are being conducted to check the pollution levels of vehicles.

Medetbek Anarbek uulu, head of the regional department of the Environmental and Technical Supervision Service, reported that the checks are carried out in collaboration with the staff of the State Environmental Protection Service to improve air quality and reduce pollution levels. During the raids, specialists measure the concentration of smoke particles in exhaust gases, focusing mainly on vehicles with diesel engines.

For the checks, a device called a "smoke meter" is used, which is installed in the exhaust pipe and allows for the measurement of emission density. If the pollution level exceeds 50%, the driver of the vehicle will be issued a report.

Anarbek uulu noted that according to research findings, vehicle emissions are one of the main causes of smog in Bishkek, ranking second after emissions related to coal burning.

Violations of environmental regulations are subject to fines: for individuals, it is 7,500 soms, and for legal entities, it is 20,000 soms. In 2025, the total amount of fines imposed as a result of similar raids exceeded 1 million soms.
