During a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Minister of Natural Resources Meder Mashiev stated that the data regarding Bishkek as one of the most polluted cities in the world is not accurate.

Deputy Suyunbek Omurakzov pointed out that the capital has frequently been mentioned in anti-rankings regarding air quality in recent years. He asked how objective these rankings are and what measures the authorities are taking to improve the ecological situation.

In his response, Minister Mashiev emphasized that there are three main factors contributing to air pollution, and work is being done to address each of them. According to him, specific measures are being taken, and results are already visible: according to data from "Kyrgyzhydromet," air quality in Bishkek has improved over the past 1-2 years.

“We do not agree with the assertion that Bishkek is on the list of the most polluted cities in the world; we do not have such indicators. To enhance objectivity within the framework of the project, we are updating monitoring systems. After the new system is implemented, we will be able to rely on this data,” Mashiev added.

He also reported that the new monitoring system will be launched by the end of 2026.

Deputy Omurakzov, in turn, noted that in some countries, the problem of smog has been reduced by approximately 30% through greening efforts, and he suggested studying this experience more closely.
