The Minister of Natural Resources, Meder Mashiev, refuted claims that Bishkek is among the most polluted cities in the world. This statement was made during a session of the Jogorku Kenesh.

In response to a comment from Deputy Suyunbek Omurzakov, who pointed out that the capital has frequently appeared in anti-rankings for air quality in recent years, the minister noted that it is important to understand the objectivity of this data and the actions of the authorities regarding the improvement of the ecological situation.

Mashiev emphasized that there are three main factors contributing to air pollution, and work is already underway on each of them. According to him, the measures being taken are already showing results: according to data from "Kyrgyzhydromet," there has been an improvement in air quality over the past 1-2 years.

"We do not have such statistical data. To eliminate doubts, we are updating monitoring systems as part of the project. After the updated system is put into operation, it will be possible to rely on this new data. By the end of the year, the new monitoring system will be operational, and a number of initiatives to minimize air pollution risks will also be implemented," the minister added.

Suyunbek Omurzakov noted that in other countries, the problem of smog has been reduced by about 30% thanks to greening efforts, urging attention to this positive experience.
