PM2.5 consists of solid particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which are 30 times smaller than a human hair. They include dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates suspended in the air. These substances contribute to the formation of smog typical of large cities.
As of January 31, Bishkek ranks 18th in the world air quality and atmospheric pollution ranking (11:00).
