PM2.5 refers to fine particles smaller than 2.5 microns, with a diameter 30 times smaller than a human hair. These particles include dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates suspended in the air. They are responsible for reduced visibility and air pollution characteristic of large cities.
As of January 21, Bishkek ranks 23rd in the world air quality and pollution ranking (11:00).
