PM2.5 consists of solid particles smaller than 2.5 microns. These particles are 30 times smaller than a human hair and include a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. They are responsible for the smog typical of large cities.
According to international rankings, Bishkek ranks 11th in the world for air pollution levels as of January 22 (at 11:00).
