PM2.5 refers to particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which are 30 times smaller than a human hair. They include a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances are responsible for the characteristic smog observed in large cities.
In the global ranking of cities by air pollution levels, Bishkek is in third place as of January 18 (5:00 PM).
