The actions of the Azerbaijani special services have become part of large-scale counterintelligence operations aimed at protecting both citizens and strategically important facilities in the country.
According to the State Security Service, among the targets of the perpetrators were important infrastructure facilities and members of religious communities. Potential targets mentioned include the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, the Israeli embassy, a leader of the Mountain Jews community, and an Ashkenazi synagogue.
Furthermore, it has been established that three explosive devices were smuggled into Azerbaijan. Their transfer to third parties was prevented, which helped avoid possible casualties and destruction.
“As a result of the operations carried out, the terrorist intentions were successfully neutralized. Four Azerbaijani citizens — Guliev Tarkhan Tarlan oglu, Agaev Nijat Zaman oglu, Abdullayev Asad Tofiq oglu, and Rustamov Rashad Farhad oglu — were found guilty and sentenced to six years and six months in prison. Shabanova Narmina Ramiz gizi and Ismiev Naib Agaismi oglu were also held criminally liable for preparing an assassination attempt on a public figure, while Akhmedov Elvin Bakhruz oglu was charged with illegal possession of weapons and explosives. A preventive measure of arrest has been imposed on all of them,” the State Security Service reported.
