Active social media user Azamat Maripov released on probation
In October 2022, the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek found him guilty under the specified articles, imposing a sentence of six years in prison.
Azamat, who actively uses Facebook, was detained a year ago after repeatedly criticizing the head of the president's office, Kanibek Tumanbaev. The latter subsequently claimed that Maripov allegedly approached him for $13,000 for a wedding and then became part of a group involved in extortion.
It is also worth noting that in April 2024, Maripov was already detained in connection with another case. The Internal Affairs Department of the Lenin District reported the detention of six men suspected of beating and illegally holding a resident of Bishkek.
Azamat is the brother of Kudret Taychabarov, the former head of the Tourism Development Fund, who is currently under arrest on suspicion of connections with organized crime groups (Article "Creation of an Organized Group or Participation in It").
