A tragedy occurred in Issyk-Kul: a woman, the mother of a minor girl, committed self-immolation.
According to information provided by the press service of the Issyk-Kul region, on February 25, 2026, a report was received at the internal affairs department of the Ak-Suu district stating that the 17-year-old daughter of a resident of the village of Ak-Suu, M.A., born in 2009, is 16 weeks pregnant. The girl's mother, also M.A., was born in 1985.
The investigative authorities interrogated the pregnant girl; however, her mother refused to act as her legal representative during the process, stating: "How can I look people in the eye if my daughter is pregnant?". As a result, the minor was questioned in the presence of a representative from the district department for family affairs and child protection.
That same evening, around 21:00, M.A. left the house, claiming she was going to the store for drinks. Unable to cope with the emotional stress, she doused herself in gasoline and set herself on fire.
The woman was urgently transported to the Issyk-Kul regional hospital, where, unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries from the burns.
A forensic medical examination has now been appointed. A criminal case has been registered at the internal affairs department of the Ak-Suu district, and necessary investigative actions are being carried out, the agency reported.
