Designer Ernist Zheentaev sentenced to six years for publications on social media
The court's decision was announced on February 13. Ernist Zheentaev, who worked for several newspapers, was detained in November 2025.
A criminal case was initiated against him under Article 278, Part 3 "Calls for mass riots" and Article 332, Part 1 "Manufacturing, distributing, transporting, or sending extremist materials" of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan.
The charges are related to his publications on social media, in which he criticized the actions of the authorities and commented on current events.
A forensic linguistic examination revealed that his posts contained calls for mass riots.
Lawyer Nurbek Sydykov noted that the defense has not yet received a copy of the verdict. The convicted person's relatives and lawyers plan to appeal the decision in a higher court.
It should also be noted that Zheentaev has three minor children, his mother suffers from a serious illness and is bedridden, and his wife works as a teacher in one of the public schools.
