The detained individual had previous convictions and was under supervision
In Bishkek, police officers detained a man suspected of a series of pickpocketing incidents that occurred on public transport along route No. 135. This was reported by the Main Internal Affairs Department.
A resident, J.I., filed a report with the Lenin District Internal Affairs Department regarding the theft of her mobile phone. According to her, the gadget was stolen by unknown individuals.
The incident occurred on February 5, 2026, around 5:30 PM, when the woman boarded bus No. 135 at the Osh market area. She noticed the disappearance of her iPhone 16 Pro when the bus reached Lavanovsky Street.
Based on this report, a criminal case was initiated under Article 205 ("Theft") of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
During operational-search activities, law enforcement officers detained A.A., who had previous convictions and was known as a pickpocket. He was taken to the investigative department of the Lenin District Internal Affairs Department, and in accordance with Article 96 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, he was placed in a temporary detention facility in Bishkek.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect was selling stolen phones in the Osh market area. During a search, more than 60 mobile devices were found in his possession, including the complainant's phone.
According to the decision of the Lenin District Court of Bishkek, a preventive measure in the form of two months of detention in custody at SIZO-1 was chosen for the detainee.
Law enforcement agencies urge citizens to be vigilant and keep an eye on their belongings in public places.
