In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated on charges of negligence and providing services that do not meet safety requirements, which led to the death of two or more people. Regional authorities have notified the Chinese consulate general in Irkutsk about the incident.
Governor Igor Kobzev emphasized: "The ice crossing on Olkhon is still closed. Going out onto the ice is currently extremely dangerous and prohibited."
An investigative operational group, including investigators, police officers, and emergency services staff, is working at the scene of the tragedy. Search operations are underway, and all circumstances of the incident are being clarified, as well as interviews with witnesses and representatives of the authorities responsible for safety on water bodies are being conducted.
