A tragedy occurred in the Irkutsk region of Russia: a car with nine passengers fell through the ice of the famous Lake Baikal. According to information provided by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation on February 20, several people likely died as a result of the incident.
According to the investigation, the incident happened around noon on February 20 near Cape Khoboy, where a UAZ vehicle fell through the ice. An investigative operational group is already working at the scene.
The governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, reported that one person managed to escape from the vehicle, but the other passengers, according to preliminary data, died.
In connection with this event, a criminal case has been initiated. It concerns part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, related to providing services that do not meet safety requirements and resulted in the death of two or more persons through negligence, as well as part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, concerning negligence.
Currently, all circumstances of the tragedy are being investigated.
