In Karakol, according to information from the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic, an inspection of local pawnshops was conducted.
This initiative was the result of an order issued by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Chairman of the GKNB, Kamchybek Tashiev.
During the inspection, it was found that some pawnshops did not comply with the requirements of the law "On the Activities of Pawnshops," as well as the rules established by Government Resolution No. 353 dated July 8, 2017. In particular, they accepted documents such as civil passports, birth certificates, and state acts of private property rights as collateral, which contradicts established norms.
As a result of the inspection, 16 pawnshops were sealed, and further verification activities are ongoing for the others.
Additionally, explanatory work was conducted with employees and owners of pawnshops regarding the prohibition of excessive interest rates and compliance with the KR Law "On Limiting Usury Activities," according to which the maximum rate should not exceed 30%.
Citizens are advised to be cautious and thoroughly review documents when obtaining loans and engaging in property transactions.
In the event of fraudulent actions by pawnshop employees, including forced seizure of pledged property, citizens should contact the GKNB office in the Issyk-Kul region at the phone number: (03922) 5-11-80.
