The press service of the State Penitentiary Service (GSIN) published information refuting reports about the death of the notorious criminal figure Mursaly Umyrzakov, better known as "Karyshkyr." The agency emphasized that he continues to serve his sentence in a correctional facility.

Earlier, news emerged in the media that Umyrzakov had died while serving his sentence.

Mursaly Umyrzakov was born on April 6, 1975, in the village of Sary-Tologoy, located in the Tyup district of the Issyk-Kul region. He has repeatedly come to the attention of law enforcement agencies and has criminal convictions for various offenses, including contract killing.

While serving his sentence in prison, Daniyar [name changed, K.D., born in 1993] met Gulya [name changed, A.G., born in 1971]. Despite the age difference, a romance developed between them. The lovers actively communicated through letters and phone calls. Daniyar had multiple convictions, but this did not deter Gulya. After his release, they began living together.

However, soon disagreements arose in their relationship. Upset, Gulya turned to her son Mirbek [name changed, K.M., born in 2001], informing him that Daniyar owed her money.

The family was aware that Daniyar always carried a knife, and his criminal past instilled fear in them. Therefore, Gulya and Mirbek decided to contact the leader of one of the criminal groups, known as "Karyshkyr." According to the investigation, Gulya ordered Daniyar's murder.

Late in the evening on April 24, 2022, Daniyar was on one of the streets of Bishkek. Around midnight, a "Kia" car approached him, driven by a friend of Mirbek [A.A. — the driver]. Other individuals were in the vehicle, who forcibly put Daniyar in the car, where, according to the investigation, he was beaten. His body was dumped at a cemetery in the village of Arashan in the Alamudun district, where he died from his injuries.

On the morning of April 25, local residents discovered his body and immediately notified the police.

In May, officers from the Department of Internal Affairs of the Chui region and the Alamudun District Police Department arrested the suspects, among whom was Karyshkyr himself. The police continued searching for other participants in the crime and on May 30 detained two more suspects, who were also listed in the Ministry of Internal Affairs' operational records as members of an organized criminal group.

On June 20, 2023, Mursalyk Umyrzakov was found guilty of several articles of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, including Article 261 ("Creation of an organized group or participation in it"), Article 165 ("Kidnapping"), Article 208 ("Extortion"), Article 122 ("Murder"), and was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property, serving his sentence in a strict regime colony.
